How to practice

Coherent breathing is an even, hold-free rhythm of about five to six breaths a minute, with the in-breath and out-breath the same length. Keep the breath round and continuous — no pause at the top or bottom — so it feels like one smooth, rolling motion. Sit or lie comfortably, breathe in through the nose as the circle grows, and let it fall just as slowly. There is nothing to push here; the steady pace does the work.

This is one of the gentlest places to start and a good everyday rhythm whenever you simply want to feel a little steadier. Because there are no breath holds, it suits longer sessions and almost any quiet moment. If five seconds each way feels short or long, nudge the pace until it feels natural — comfort matters more than the exact number. Even a few minutes can leave the breath calmer and more even.
